French Lesson Quick tip: accommodation
“accommodation” has no article in English, like “software”. It’s a collective noun, but you need an article in French. In French it’s a very countable noun: « un logement », « deux logements ».
“proper”. That’s a very specific English word.
« bon » is a good translation, « un bon logement ». « correct » is another one – « un logement correct ».
Notice how « correct » is placed after « logement », like most adjectives but « bon », as in « bon logement » is actually placed before.
That’s because it’s a very common adjective like « grand » (“big”), or « vieux » (“old”).
French Lesson Grammar point: near
“near”: I chose to translate “near” with « proche .» I could have used « près »/« près de ».
“Near” is « près de ». “close to” is « proche de ».
You may use both.
“new”: « nouveau »
The feminine is different, « nouvelle ».
“a workplace”: « un lieu de travail ».
You should be familiar now with the way French deals with two nouns, using the genitive.
“workplace” is « lieu de travail », literally “place of work”.
Here is the full sentence again:
“Did you find proper accommodation near your new workplace?”
« As-tu trouvé un bon logement proche de ton nouveau lieu de travail ? »
