Breakdown
- “TO LOOK AT”: « REGARDER »
It’s used here in the imperative mode. We’ll see that later, but keep it in mind.
- “the sales figures”: « les chiffres des ventes »
- You already know each of these words, but not together “the sales figures”: « les chiffres de ventes »
- “a launch”: « un lancement »
- “TO LAUNCH” is « LANCER »: « -ER », first group. Easy.
- “a product”: « un produit »
- “successful”: « être un succès »
The literal translation of successful, as a noun, is impossible. You have to use a paraphrase, another way to say it. So, the alternative is « réussir », for example « le lancement du produit a réussi », or you can use « être un succès », which is what I did.
“a successful product launch”: « le lancement du produit a été un succès » is in the passé composé, because it’s a past event that is complete.
French Lesson Quick tip: “What a”
It’s an idiomatic, specific English expression of surprise. It doesn’t translate literally in French. I used « un vrai succès » to keep the same intensity. It literally means “a real success”/“a true success”.
