  1. “a record”: « des notes »

Example sentence French Lesson Meeting Minutes

“I made a record of our meeting.”

« J’ai pris des notes sur notre réunion. »

Breakdown

  • “I made”: « j’ai pris »

So that’s “TO TAKE”: « PRENDRE », in the passé composé, the standard past tense.

“TO MAKE” is usually « FAIRE », but it’s a set phrase, it’s a different expression here.

So, you’re not going to say « j’ai fait des notes », you will say “I have taken notes”: « j’ai pris des notes ».

  • “a meeting”: « une réunion »

You may say « un meeting » because in business French, you will borrow a lot of English words.

  • “our”: « notre »

It’s a possessive pronoun. You need to learn all 6 of the possessive pronouns and their different variations, it’s very important.

Quick tip: “To take notes”

How do you say to take notes?

Well it’s the exact same French expression.

“to make a record” or “to take notes” is going to be « prendre des notes ».

This is going to happen a lot, sometimes you have several expressions in English and only one good translation in French. Sometimes it’s the other way around.
