“managerial”: « managérial »
Common Management Terminology Lesson in French for Business
“You need to make a managerial decision, it’s your job.”
« Tu dois prendre une décision managériale, c’est ton rôle. »
“need to”: « devoir »
In this case we’re not going to use « avoir besoin de » because it’s an external obligation, so we use « devoir ».
“to make a decision”: « prendre une decision ».
Be careful here. “to make” should be « faire ».
But in this case, it’s a set phrase and we always say « prendre une decision ».
Many times, with set phrases, the main verb is going to change according to the specific image that the language uses.
“it’s your job”: « c’est ton rôle » or « c’est ton travail ».
“job” literally means « travail », but in this case it’s more accurate to describe someone’s role, someone’s duty.
Let’s break them down, these 3 notions, 3 shades of moral obligation: “job”, “role” and “duty ”.
“a job” is « un travail ».
“a role” is « un rôle ».
“a duty” is « un devoir ».
Here is the full sentence again:
“You need to make a managerial decision, it’s your job.”
« Tu dois prendre une décision managériale, c’est ton rôle. »
