“a workshop”: « un atelier »
“Workshops are extremely efficient to get group tasks done.”
« Les ateliers sont extrêmement efficaces pour mener à bien les tâches collectives. »
Conversation in French is a Useful Lesson
“extremely”: « extrêmement »
Remember, “-ly” is the usual ending of an adverb in English. In French it will be « -ment » or « -ement ».
“efficient”: « efficace »
Theoretically there is a difference between “efficient” and “effective”.
“efficient” is when you use minimal resources to reach your goal.
“effective” is something that allows you to reach the objective really well.
So “efficient” is « efficient » (transparent). And “effective” is « efficace ».
But in both languages, we abuse these meanings and we only use “efficient” and « efficace ».
We don’t really mean minimal resources, we mean we’ve reached our goals – “efficient”: « efficace ».
“to get something done”: « pour mener quelque chose à bien ».
“to get group tasks done” this “to” indicates an objective.
The generic translation is « pour », e.g. « pour mener à bien ».
And “to get something done” is « mener quelque chose à bien ».
In this case “a group task”: « une tâche collective ».
Again, the English likes to use another noun as an adjective “group task”, “a task in group.”
But it’s not done in French and the French does: noun + adjective.
Sometimes it’s going to be noun + « de »/« des » + other noun. Here it’s noun + adjective.
Remember in French, most adjectives are placed after the noun – “a group task”: « une tâche collective ».
« une tâche » is singular feminine, so « collectif » becomes « collective » (feminine singular).
Here is the full sentence again:
“Workshops are extremely efficient to get group tasks done.”
« Les ateliers sont extrêmement efficaces pour mener à bien les tâches collectives. »
