Useful French phrases for French Lesson Confident Conversation

“to turn something around”: « transformer quelque chose »

“He is going to turn the company around in no time.”

« Il va transformer l’entreprise en un rien de temps. »

“the company”:  « l’entreprise »

“to turn something around”: « transformer »

Again, the English is using a very vivid image, “turn around”, but the French is using an abstract concept, “to transform”: « transformer ».

“in no time”: « en un rien de temps ».

The French literally says “in nothing of a time”: « en un rien de temps ».

French Grammar point: Short-term future

“He is going to turn”: “il va transformer”.

So this is a short-term future. It is used to describe future events in the near future, and in a very simple way.

So this is the first kind of future that you need to learn, and it works exactly like in English.

In English you would say “I am going to be” and the French is « je vais être ». The only difference is you use “am going”, the present perfect in English, which doesn’t exist in French.

So it’s only going to be one word « je vais » in present, and then you add the infinitive “TO BE”, « ETRE »:

ALLER ETRE (TO BE GOING TO BE): present

I am going to be: Je vais être

You are going to be: Tu vas être

He/she is going to be: Il/Elle va être

We are going to be: Nous allons être

You are going to be: Vous allez être

They are going to be: Ils/Elles vont être

Let’s use another verb “TO TAKE”: « PRENDRE »

I am going to take: Je vais prendre

You are going to take: Tu vas prendre

He/She is going to take: Il/Elle va prendre

We are going to take: Nous allons prendre

You are going to take: Vous allez prendre

They are going to take: Ils/Elles vont prendre

Here is the full sentence again:

“He is going to turn the company around in no time.”

« Il va transformer l’entreprise en un rien de temps. »
