Basic Conjugation Lesson in French Nouns

“a database”: « une base de données »

“You need a real database to automate your tickets.”

« Tu as besoin d’une vraie base de données pour automatiser tes tickets. »

“a database”: « une base de données »

This is typical of different syntaxes in English and French. Again, in English you have two nouns and you just juxtapose them and it makes a new compound noun.

The first one becomes a de facto adjective “data”, “a base of data” (“database”).

But the French doesn’t do that, « une base de données »: you use one noun + « de » + another noun.

Also, you will need need to make « données » plural because you obviously have lots of data.

So you will never be able to write « une base de donnees » without the -s at the end.

“you need”: « tu as besoin »/« tu as besoin de ».

“you need something”: « tu as besoin de quelque chose ».

Many verbs are built differently. The English “you need” doesn’t need a preposition after it, the French does: « tu as besoin de ».

“to automate”: « automatiser »

[Note: the audio incorrectly is inaccurate for this paragraph]

This a rare trap. It should be « automater ». The final “is” syllable  is added from the English.

Usually, both both languages have the same number of syllables, e.g. “to facilitate”: « faciliter », “to estimate”: « estimer ».

“a ticket”: « un ticket » (in the context of customer service). Very simple.
